We just completed a log home in Alabama. We have a similar walk out basement. We LOVE the back patio. Is it real rock or concrete??? Can you give us some tips on how to do that?

By S&Barb on Mar 14, 2008
We are looking at a 1941 Log Home.-full log
What should we watch out for and is cinderblock
foundation ok?
It was expanded in 1950's, with new ad half log.

We love the stone walkway and garden along with the bear in front of home. There is actually a lot to love here.
Is a wood stove ok to run all the time in winter along with forced air furnace? What to do about dryness as we hope to cut heating bills?

Simply gorgeous!

how much will cost for such a house and what kind of log are you using?

By Whitney Richardson on Oct 07, 2010
Akis--We do not have information on the specific cost of this home, but a good rule of thumb for most log homes is $150 to $175 square feet. The logs used in this home are lodgepole pine.

Hey we really love your cabin its beautiful what type of wood did you use on the outside? Were about to build our first home together in Tennessee :)

Thanks
Daniel and Kelly

Daniel and Kelly--The logs used for this project are lodgepole pine. You can read more about how the home was created here: http://www.loghome.com/planning_an_old_fashioned_log_home/articles/2604.

This large home is very beautiful and has many extraordinary details; the fireplaces are exquisite and the landscaping is very appealing. I find the antiques most interesting, because my home is filled to the gills with antique furniture and collectibles, and this home certainly looks welcoming with the way it is decorated. However, unless one is recreating a vintage Andirondack Great Camp, it is difficult to say that a 5,500 sq. foot, 3-level home with (was it 5, or 6?) fireplaces looks "old-timey." Beautiful, but let's give it 50 years before calling it old-fashioned. Thank you for the article and the lovely pictures.

What a beautiful property! We're going to be building in 2-3 years but I already have a great idea folder going, do you have a floorplan sketch available? I love the look of the layout, but we're looking to do more timberframe construction than full log. Beautiful looking home though!

Whitey--You can check out the floor plans for this home here: http://www.loghome.com/old_fashioned_log_home_plans/articles/2603.
